456 | Dragonfly Ripple 3: Twisterns

In this rerun episode of Dragonfly Ripple: Bringing Up the Next Generation of Nerd, Michael and Carlin talked to their kids about Westerns… with a twist (or "twisterns"). 

Carlin and Annaliese watched the 1993-94 Bruce Campbell series on FOX, The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. while Michael and David delved into the 1960s TV series (and 1990s Will Smith movie) The Wild, Wild West. Both shows are Westerns, but feature sci-fi, spy, and steampunk elements. 

And the opening chat between Michael and Carlin sets up Episode 4 by talking about the order in which we present the Star Wars films to our children. Plus, in "Jetpack Tiger," we talk about the Star Wars Clone Wars cartoon.

A couple of episodes ago, Michael and Rob talked about JJ Abrams' Mission Impossible III and the TV show Lost came up. Michael mentioned an episode of the old Dragonfly Ripple podcast where Annaliese Trammel shared her thoughts on the first two seasons with her dad, Carlin. Dragonfly Ripple 14 | Talking With Guests Rob & Delaney!

Michael and Rob didn't actually meet on Nerd Lunch. Instead, they met on the Dragonfly Ripple podcast, a show that Michael and Nerd Lunch's Carlin did with their kids, David and Annaliese. The concept was that Carlin and Michael would each introduce Annaliese and David to a new, nerdy thing to see how the kids liked it. 

It was usually just the four of them, but on Episode 14, Carlin invited Rob on with his daughter Delaney to talk about Star Trek, the Star Wars radio dramas, and Disney World. Then, in an extra special segment, the kids took over the show and kicked out the dads. And finally, everyone designed their own amusement park rides. 

Dragonfly Ripple also often included a segment called Jetpack Tiger in which Carlin and his youngest child Dashiell would chat. But for this special episode, Annaliese talked to Dashiell about Minecraft.
